House call vet offering in home pet euthanasia services to Dunmow, Bishops Stortford, Chelmsford and surrounding areas.
We all wish our pets could live forever, but sadly there comes a time when we have to make that difficult decision to let our friends go. Forget Me Not Farewells can provide a gentle alternative to that final visit to the clinic as I can come to your house instead, so your pet can go to sleep in the comfort and familiarity of their own home.

NON EMERGENCY EUTHANASIA SERVICES, ON A PRE-ARRANGED BASIS
Available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 9am - 3pm, and Thursday and Friday 9am - 5pm
KATHARINE SEWELL BVETMED MRCVS
I’m Katharine, and I am a vet who’s been working in Essex for over 15 years. I am very proud to be able to offer a dedicated home euthanasia service for the West/Mid Essex and East Herts area, making the hardest part of pet ownership a little easier.
I’m often asked if putting pets to sleep is the hardest part of my job, and my response has always been the same - it’s never an easy thing, but it is genuinely an honour and a privilege to be able to help a beloved animal pass smoothly and peacefully. Being able to come to your house can make a difficult time a little easier, so your pet can go to sleep in the comfort and familiarity of their own home.
I am based in Takeley and my normal area is within 25 miles travelling distance of Takeley. However I can come out further - I have been to pets in Southend, Basildon, Colchester and Cambridge, to name a few examples. There is a small fee to cover the extra traveling for those outside my area, please see the ‘Prices’ section below.
Please get in touch if you have any questions, or if you would like to make an appointment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE PROCEDURE?
All pets are given a sedative injection first to allow them to relax and fall asleep as stress-free as possible. Once they are asleep, I will place an IV cannula and give the final injection into the vein. Their passing is usually very fast and peaceful. In very small or moribund animals where an IV cannot be placed, I will sometimes give the final injection into their tummy instead. They will be sedated and asleep at this point and will not feel anything, but it can take a bit longer for them to pass. I will be with you throughout until they have gone.
WHAT CREMATION/BURIAL OPTIONS ARE THERE?
Please see the ‘Cremation’ section below, but there are three main options.
•An individual cremation, where your pet is cremated on their own and their ashes are returned to you.
•A general cremation, where your pet is cremated with other pets and the ashes scattered at the crematorium.
•A home burial, if this is something you would prefer and can arrange yourself.
For cremations I work with the wonderful team at Phoenix Pet Crematorium in Boreham. After your pet has passed I can transport them to Phoenix or we can arrange for Phoenix to come and collect them. Alternatively you can take them there yourself. Both individual and general cremations are treated with the utmost respect and dignity you would expect for your beloved friend.
There is a small fee for me to transport your pet, please see the ‘Prices’ section below.
If you would prefer you can of course make your own arrangements with another local crematorium, or choose to bury them at home.
DO I HAVE TO BE PRESENT FOR THE WHOLE PROCESS?
While most clients prefer to stay with their pets during the whole procedure, there is absolutely no obligation to do this if it would be too difficult for you. A lot of pet owners who don’t feel they can stay for the whole time will stay for the sedation until their pet is asleep, then step out for the final injection. It is entirely up to you and what you can manage on the day.
HOW DO I PAY?
I accept either cash or card payment on the day, or prepayment online if you’d prefer. As I am a very small business I unfortunately cannot offer payment plans.
WHAT IF MY ANIMAL IS NERVOUS?
Please contact me in advance to discuss this, as an additional visit may be necessary to prescribe an oral sedative if there is any possibility of someone getting hurt or your pet becoming unduly stressed.
CREMATION SERVICES
I work with Phoenix Pet Crematorium to provide individual cremation services. Phoenix can come to your house to collect your pet or I can transport your pet to them if you would prefer. They have a variety of tribute urns, jewellery and scattering tubes for return of your pet’s ashes. For more information please see their website www.phoenixpetcremations.com/If you would prefer not to have the ashes back, I can take your pet to Phoenix for a general cremation.
Or of course you can choose to bury your pet at home.
